Speedster forward Ethan Pool continued his playoff prowess for the Timmins Rock in tonight’s opening game of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship series. Pool potted a pair of goals as the Rock blanked the reigning champion Soo Thunderbirds 4-0 before close to 1,400 fans at McIntyre Arena in Timmins.

The 20-year old Pool now has six goals in the five playoff games that he has suited up in for Timmins thus far in this spring’s playoffs. He missed the entire first round playoff series against the French River Rapids before scoring four goals in four games as the Rock swept the Powassan Voodoos in the East Division finals. Pool scored eight goals in 36 regular-season outings for Timmins while missing more than 20 games because of a variety of injuries.

Besides Pool’s performance in tonight’s series opener, Lucas Piekarczyk also came through with a two-goal effort to spark the Timmins attack. And goalie Patrick Boivin not only stood tall for Timmins with a 20-save shutout but he assisted on two goals.

Game 2 in the Timmins-Soo series is slated for Friday night, again at McIntyre Arena. The best-of-seven series then shifts to the Soo for Games 3 and 4.
