RBC adds defender from Q
Rayside-Balfour Canadians of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have acquired big defenseman Bryce O’Brien from the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Jr. Hockey League.
At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, O’Brien adds size and strength to Rayside, which is in second place in the West Division of the NOJHL, just ahead of the third-place Blind River Beavers. The big defender has played in 24 career games in the QMJHL.
Rayside owner-president Adrian Gedye told HockeyNewsNorth.com that O’Brien has offensive skills to go with the defensive part of his game.
“He’s got great feet for a big guy and he’s got a cannon of a shot,” Gedye said of O’Brien, who has a 1998 birth date. “We feel that he is under-rated offensively. We know what he will bring to us as a big, physical presence.”
