Two key players will be returning to the Espanola Express of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League for a second season, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Calgary native Cameron Anklewich and Ottawa product Dominik Lavergne have both punched their return ticket to Espanola, Express president Chad Clarke told HockeyNewsNorth.com.

A smooth-skating 1997 birth-year centre, Anklewich was second on the Espanola scoring chart in 2015-2016 with 10 goals, 25 assists, 35 points as captain of the Express.

“Cameron is a player we can rely on in all situations and we expect him to have a break-out year and build off of the numbers he put up last year,” said Express co-coach Jason Rapcewicz.

Lavergne, who also has a 1997 birth date, is a hulking 6-foot-5, 200-pound power forward. In just 36 games with the Express in ’15-16, Lavergne had 13 goals, 10 assists, 23 points.

“Dominik is another player we expect to have a break-out season this year,” noted Rapcewicz. “If he would have played a full season with us last year he would have been our leading scorer and we expect him to put all kinds of numbers on the board this year,” said Rapcewicz.

As an NOJHL expansion team in ’15-16, Espanola finished fifth in the West Division, making the playoffs ahead of the Blind River Beavers.

      1. I like the move, bring in a guy with some extra experience running and coaching a team, and Chad, who has always been a very good man and great with the people, assumes more of a role where he can get out there with the community and promote the team and its players better.
