Rich kid in French River
French River Rapids have won only one of 16 games thus far this season but a rookie forward has been a bright spot for the first-year Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League team.
One of several productive 1999 birth-year skaters in the 12-team NOJHL, Caleb Rich is not only taking a regular shift for French River but is the Rapids second-leading scorer.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Rich, who hails from the small town of Callander, has 5 goals, 6 assists, 11 points in 15 games for the expansion Rapids.
Rich is one of a number of players from northern Ontario with 1999 birth dates who are fitting in rather well as 16-year old rookies in the NOJHL.
Others include forwards Bradley Chenier and Cayse Ton of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians, forward MacKenzie Aiken of the Espanola Express, forward Max Khull of the Blind River Beavers and forward Mark Tassone of the Soo Thunderbirds.
