Rock and Birds go up 2-0
Timmins Rock and Soo Thunderbirds have both taken 2-0 series leads in their respective Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League division finals.
Timmins 5, Powassan 0. Playing in front of a Good Friday crowd of more than 1,300 at McIntyre Arena, the Rock rolled to victory over the Voodoos backed by the return to mid season form of goalie Patrick Boivin, who made 25 saves for the blank. Nick Frederick, local product Nolan Ring and Lucas Piekarczyk all had two-point outings for coach Brandon Perry’s Timmins crew.
Soo 5, Sudbury 2. The Thunderbirds stole their second straight road win over the Cubs. Rookie goalie Landon Miller, a second round, 2022 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft pick of the Soo Greyhounds, ran his playoff record to 6-0-1 in his seventh straight start.
