Rock around the playoff clock
Reigning champion Timmins Rock has become the first team to proceed to the second round of this year’s Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoffs.
A goal by gunner Mason Svarich — his second of the game — just past the 5:00 minute mark of overtime gave the visiting Rock a 3-2 win over the Iroquois Falls Storm on Thursday and a sweep of the opening round, best of seven, East Division series.
Veteran goalie Patrick Boivin backstopped the Timmins victory with a 34 save performance.
