Playing in front of more than 1,000 fans at venerable McIntyre Arena, Timmins Rock upended the Cochrane Crunch 5-2 on Saturday to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, preliminary-round playoff series.

Keegan McMullen tallied twice and added an assist to pace no. 4 seed Timmins past no. 5 seed Cochrane.

Game 2 in the series is slated for tonight at 6:00 in Cochrane. If a third game is needed, it will be played on Wednesday in Timmins.

The winner of the series will play top-seeded Hearst Lumberjacks in one East Division semi-final series.

Second-place Kirkland Lake Gold Miners will face off against third-ranked Powassan Voodoos in the other best-of-seven, East Division semi-final set.

What you think about “Rock socks Crunch”

  1. Great start for Timmins. Great game for 16 year old McMullen. A Peterborough Petes draft pick.
Eliminating the NOJHL champions tonight would have Cochrane sitting around and waiting almost 2 month to host the Dudley. Not a financial move Coach Lenny is wishing for to say the least!
