Graduated Soo Thunderbirds forward Caleb Wood is moving on to skate for the Sault College Cougars of the Division 2, American Collegiate Hockey Association for the planned 2021-2022 season.

Sault College is the only Canadian school to have a varsity men’s team in the ACHA.

“It feels great,” relayed Wood. “I am very excited to join the Cougars and Sault College is the best fit for me in my eyes.”

Wood is fresh from an abbreviated Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season with the hometown Thunderbirds and finishing second in team scoring with 10 goals, 13 assists, 23 points in 21 games.

He was pumped to be able to play his final season of junior eligibility with the Thunderbirds.

“Even though this season was shortened games wise, I still spent the summer and seven months with an awesome group of guys, including the coaches. The scoring I felt was nice, but my teammates deserve the credit because they were awesome,” said Wood.

Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, the 2000 birth year forward played two NOJHL seasons with the Michigan Soo Eagles, totaling 71 points in 105 games.

“Soo Michigan was great and I loved my time there. The Eagles are a great organization,” Wood stated.

In heading to Sault College to play for the Cougars, Wood attention in the classroom will be to major in Business.

“I chose to take business because it really interests me. It was also one of the classes I took back in high school and I loved it,” said Wood.
