French River Rapids of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League hosted a barbecue at the Noelville Community Centre on Wednesday and drew an estimated gathering of about 125 supporters.

Coach-general manager Moe Mantha and owner Allan Donnan represented the new French River entry and used the community event to announce the signing of six players ahead of the team’s July 3-5 open tryout camp, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Among the players who were on hand and signed NOJHL cards are goalies Danial Loftsrom and Chad Mosley, defenceman Bruce Chard and forwards Lukas Woolridge, Tyler McGregor and Marc-Andre Querillon.

Lofstrom, who is from Mississauga First Nation, has a 1996 birth date.

Mosley, who hails from Gatineau, Quebec, was born in 1997.

Woolridge, who is from the French River area, has a 1996 birth date.

Chard, who hails from Holly, Michigan, was born in 1998.

McGregor, who is from Cobourg, has a 1998 birth date.

Querillon, who hails from the French River area, was born in 1999.

And as was reported earlier by HockeyNewsNorth.com, George Hill, a 1995 birth-year goalie who played with the Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League in 2014-2015, has verbally committed to the Rapids and will sign with them at the July 3-5 tryout camp.

As coach-GM, Mantha has said he plans to go with three goalies throughout the season with the younger Mosley backing up the older duo of Hill and Lofstrom.

What you think about “Several French River Rapids signings”

  1. Hey Randy

  2. Ok thanks I had heard at the BBQ he wasn’t in the mix anymore thanks guess we will see

    Regard’s

    Steve

    1. To repeat: according to George Hill, he has committed and will sign at the July 3-5 tryout camp. That info also confirmed by coach Moe Mantha.

  3. It seams that “Steve Clark” is trying to stirr it up for George Hill. Why is this??? George is a nice kid and a good goalie that has told us that he is going up to Canada to play for Coach Mantha.

  4. The Querrilion kid is a good lil player so too is Woolridge a good player. Hopefully the other’s who have signed can be good Junior “A” player’s for our new team.

  5. Good signing regarding Bruce Chard. I watched him a number of times at AAA Tournements in Michigan over the course of the 14/15 Season. Good mobility …. Puck moving Dman with a nice skill set. He is still young so give him time to adapt to the faster paice of Juniors. Moe did his home work on this kid.
