Recently-graduated Espanola Express defenceman Shane Snow will join head coach Tom McCarthy and co-coach Jason Rapcewicz on the bench as an associate coach with the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League team.

Espanola general manager Chad Clarke confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that Snow will be on board alongside McCarthy and Rapcewicz as the Express steams ahead into its second season in the NOJHL.

A rugged defender as a player, Snow had a five-year junior career that included NOJHL stops with the Blind River Beavers and Soo Thunderbirds before finishing with Espanola in 2015-2016.

“I couldn’t think of a better place to play my last junior year than Espanola,” said Snow. “The opportunity to play for coach Tom McCarthy was an incredible experience for me and now I have the opportunity to continue learning from him and continue to help the team at the same time.”

Snow’s work ethic, tenacity and knowledge of the game is apparent, noted co-coach Rapcewicz.

“Shane always led by example when he was on the ice and he was very verbal on the bench, he has all the tools to be a very successful coach,” said Rapcewicz.
