Affiliate player Evan Hoglund was an improbable hero for the Soo Eagles on Friday as they remained active in their first round Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series with the Timmins Rock.

A local Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan product, Hoglund fired three goals as the Eagles upended the visitors from Timmins with a 5-3 verdict before more than 700 fans at Pullar Stadium. The goals were the first three of the playoffs for Hoglund, who skated in eight regular season games for the Eagles and had two goals, four assists, six points.

Hoglund wasn’t the only AP who helped in the Eagles must need win as defenseman Colton Huckson, a Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native, picked up an assist.

Timmins now leads the best of seven series three games to two. Game 6 is slated for Timmins on Sunday at 8 p.m. at McIntyre Arena. If a Game 7 is needed, it will be played in Timmins on Monday night.
