A slow start to the season has since turned into more of a surge for the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Since a 1-3-0 beginning through four games head coach Jeremy Rebek and his Eagles are 6-1-1 in their last eight outings to improve their record to 7-4-1 through a dozen NOJHL matches.

Included in the high flight of the Eagles of late is taking five of six points from a recent three game road trip to the far northeast region of Ontario.

Benjamin Pouliot celebrates a goal for the Soo Eagles

One of a number of key performers for the Eagles has been re-acquired forward Benjamin Pouliot. After putting up 24 goals, 34 assists, 58 points in 56 games for the Eagles in ’23-24, Pouliot requested a trade to the Ontario Jr. Hockey League during the off season and wound up with the Wellington Dukes.

But after six games and a goal with Wellington to begin this ’24-25 season, Pouliot was in touch with Eagles general manager Bruno Bragagnolo and relayed to him that he would like to return to the Michigan Soo if possible.

“We had left the door open for Ben to return to us if wanted to after we traded him to Wellington and when he asked if we would trade to get him back we were happy to be able to make the move,” Bragagnolo told Hockey News North.

Thus far, in five games for the Eagles since his return, Pouliot has four goals, three assists, seven points.

The Eagles are home at Pullar Stadium for a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, the Eagles play host to the Soo Thunderbirds and on Saturday the first place Sudbury Cubs head to the Michigan Soo.
