Soo Eagles on 9-0-1 flight
Coached by Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario resident Jeremy Rebek, the Michigan Soo Eagles are flying high near the top perch of the standings in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
Under Rebek, who is a first year head coach with the Eagles, the Michigan Soo squad is 9-0-1 in its last 10 outings and has an overall record of 17-6-2 at the midway mark of the ’24-25 NOJHL regular season. Rebek, long time former assistant coach with the NOJHL’s Soo Thunderbirds, has earned considerable praise from Eagles president and general manager Bruno Bragagnolo for the work that he has done.
“Jeremy and his coaching staff have done a great job for us this season,” Bragagnolo relayed to Hockey News North. “Our players are very well coached and very well prepared. I couldn’t be happier with the job that Jeremy and his staff have done.”
The Eagles are led by a pair of forwards who are third and fourth among NOJHL scoring leaders. They are Cooper Fredericks, who has 20 goals, 19 assists, 39 points in 25 games and Alex Povorozniouk, who has 13-26-39 totals in 25 outings. Then there is forward Ben Pouliout, who has 12 goals, 12 assists, 24 points in just 17 games.
Meanwhile, local product Cole Wreggitt — a 2008 birth year defenseman and fourth round pick of the Sudbury Wolves at the 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft — has one goal, 15 assists, 16 points in 23 games from his blue line post.
Between the pipes, the Eagles have multiple wins from all three goalies. Jace Knoerle has a record of 8-4-1, Mason Burks has a mark of 6-2-1 while Gaetano Piccione is a perfect 3-0-0. Combined, the three Eagle goalies have a 2.66 goals against average and .912 save percentage.
