Soo Eagles sign pair of forwards

Two forwards with a “nice scoring touch” have signed with the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, co-coach/general manager Bruno Bragagnolo has told HockeyNewsNorth.com.

The pair are Rhett Rampinelli from the Boston Jr. Bruins of the U.S. Premier 3 Hockey League and Jake Cimarusti from the Northern Cyclones of the Eastern Hockey League.

Rampinelli averaged more than two points per outing in 2015-2016 while Cimarusti produced at a point-per-game clip during the same season.

Bragagnolo noted that “at least eight other teams” in the NOJHL offered to sign Rampinelli, who has opted to play for the Michigan-based Eagles.

As for Cimarusti, he impressed Bragagnolo and the Eagles staff at their spring tryout camp.

“He had a really good camp and gave us a good indication of what he can do,” Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com.

What you think about “Soo Eagles sign pair of forwards”

  1. I am looking forward to when the Eagles play the Zoo Dirty Birds this year and beat the piss outta them. By far the dirtiest team in the entire NOJ last year and the Reffs let them get away with it especially in Canada.

    1. Thats funny. The Eagles had the dirtiest player in the League
Hernandez (in my opinion) The biggest bushwacker ive ever seen!!

  2. Have to agree with “AE” about the Thunderbirds! That was a Team of real cheap-shots player’s with a Coach who let his kids’ carry there sticks high & slash & chop. Pay-back is going to be nice as the Thunderbirds will not be ruling the roost this time a-round IMHO.

  3. I don’t know what you guys are talking about, the Thunderbirds did get out of hand at time yes, but they played the game with a chip on their shoulder. They hit hard and often to create space so their goal scorers could do their job and put the puck in the back of the net which they did often night in and night out. By far the most exciting team to watch in the NOJHL this past season. Smith and his staff did one heck of a job with those boys, they taught them to play the game the right way.

  4. AE – I disagree with you; in full disclosure to watch a Soo Eagles game we have to cross the bridge; which we did several times this past season not only to observe the T-Birds v Eagles, but to take in several other Eagles games. In doing so, we became “somewhat” Eagles fans, the Pullar provided a great atmosphere for hockey and cheap beer.
The T-Birds are a hard nosed team, not cheap, and if anything, the Eagles suffered some bad refereeing calls against them at the Pullar; for some reason especially when they played the T-Birds.

GB – I think your off base in your opinion of Hernandez; the kid played the role (policeman) he was asked to play by his coach; it seemed to me he let other players know he was coming for them (not cheap) and he was ready to knuckle -up. If you watched Hernandez play, he can play when he was concentrating on hockey and not patrolling. Not the fastest or the flash-dash kid out there, but he has skill to play in this league and even D3. On a side note, my wife and I met Hernandez and got to talk with him for some time, he is a quality kid that his parents should be very proud of; and I’m sure every player from other teams would rather play with him than against him. He’s the type of person that sacrifices for his teammates.

    1. Sorry – your impression of Hernandez is so wrong IN MY OPINION he was one of the most disrespectful players I have ever met – both on and off the ice not to mention his entitled attitude.

  5. Jaakiekko Seuraja- you’re right Hernandez made a sacrifice. Every game I watched he either sat on the bench, in the box, or in the stands. Great teammate and such a “quality” person. He was nothing but a cheap player who wasn’t able to keep up with the pace of the NOJHL IN MY OPINION.
