Soo Eagles soar to .500
Four straight victories have lifted the Soo Eagles to the .500 mark for the first time since the early going of the 2018-2019 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season.
With a 19-19-2 record through 40 games, the Eagles are seven points up on the fifth-place Elliot Lake Wildcats and five points back of the third-place Blind River Beavers in the West Division of the NOJHL.
Two of the Eagles recent four wins have been over Blind River.
“Coach Doug (Laprade) and I have been seeing a consistent improvement from the boys as the season has gone on,” Eagles general manager Bruno Bragagnolo told Hockey News North.
A rookie-laden team, the Eagles are led in goals by first-year forward Caleb Wood. A local product from the Ontario side of the St. Mary’s River, Wood leads the Michigan-based Eagles with 16 goals.
The Eagles have two games on the slate this week. Friday they are in Elliot Lake before playing host to the Powassan Voodoos in a 7 p.m. start on Saturday at venerable Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo.
