Alex DiBacco, a 1996 birth-year defenseman who played the 2015-2016 season with the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, has a college commitment, HockeyNewsNorth.com has learned.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound DiBacco is headed to play at the Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association level for the St. Mary’s University of Minnesota Cardinals in the fall.

Bruno Bragagnolo, who is the general manager/co-coach of the Michigan Soo-based Eagles, said he feels DiBacco is ready for the move up to the NCAA ranks despite having a year of junior eligibility remaining.

“As always, we are proud and happy for any of our players who get the opportunity to go to a good school and continue to play hockey at the same time,” Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “And Alex is another example. He is a good player who is ready to move up.”

In 60 games with the Eagles in 2015-2016, regular season and playoffs included, DiBacco had 10 goals, 29 assists, 39 points from his blueline position.
