Their 2015-2016 season over after being swept by the Soo Thunderbirds in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League’s West Division playoffs, Soo Eagles co-coach/general manager Bruno Bragagnolo has started building towards the 2016-2017 campaign.

Bragagnolo confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that 1998 birth-year defenseman Carmen Scarfone has committed to the Eagles for the ’16-17 season.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Scarfone played high school hockey for the league champion St. Mary’s Knights in 2015-2016 after skating for the Soo Major Thunderbirds midgets in 2014-2015.

Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com that he has seen a lot of Scarfone during the past two seasons.

“We are excited to have him commit to us,” Bragagnolo said of Scarfone. “I have watched him play over the past two seasons and believe he can be an impact player for us on the back end. He has size, skates well, competes hard and is a character young man which is exactly the type of player the Eagles are always looking for.”

The Eagles stand to lose a number of players from the 2015-2016 team that finished in fourth place in the West Division and eighth overall in the 12-team NOJHL including 1997 birth-year defenseman Zack Parrott, who is expected to sign with the New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League.
