Soo T-Birds add Michael Caruso
The top team in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League has brought in yet-another impact player.
HockeyNewsNorth.com has learned that 1995 birth-year defenseman Michael Caruso will be re-joining the reigning champion and first-place Soo Thunderbirds from the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League in a cash exchange.
A hard-hitting, hard-shooting defender, Caruso starred with the Thunderbirds as a 17-year old during the 2012-2013 season before playing the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 campaigns in the North American Hockey League with the Soo Eagles, now of the NOJHL.
In returning to the Thunderbirds, where his junior hockey career began, Caruso will be a teammate of his younger brother, 1997 birth-year forward Matt Caruso.
The older Caruso becomes the second high-end player in a matter of a few days to make his way back to the already-powerful Thunderbirds.
Earlier, the Thunderbirds welcomed back 1997 birth-year goalie Mario Culina from the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. Culina helped backstop the Thunderbirds to the 2014-2015 NOJHL championship.
BIRDS TO BEAVERS
To make room for the newly-acquired Caruso, the Thunderbirds have dealt 1998 birth-year defenceman Matt Murray to the Blind River Beavers in a cash exchange.
All in !!
nice little pick up !
“…and the rich get richer”…
Can we just hand the Championship to the Zoo Birds right now ??? !!!
Phuck …… Carruso is a dam good D-Man …… going to be tough for the Eagles to beat these guy’s now. Thats an All Star Team over there !!!
Great pickups for the Tbird team. Hard to find good goaltending (Culina) and a veteran defenceman (Caruso) This should send a message to the rest of the league that this team is primed to repeat as champions of the nojhl and will compete for the Dudley once again.
I find it verrrrrry intresting that Mike Caruso chose to come back and play for the Thunderbirds and NOT play for the Eagles. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Anythinng you want to share on this R.R.?
Simple…wants to join a team that will be competing for the RBC cup once again, but with valuable experience gained from last year. Two very strong pick-ups, as Elliot Lake will discover tonight.
Beavers in Michigan tonite; cant believe the Beavers have lost 14 Games in a row. They need a W tonite big time.
I am told by some one who knows that Mike did not want to play for the Coach over there no more. I bet that R.R. knows but he ain’t saying.
Bruno is one ov R.R.’s favourite Coach’s so R.R. aint gonna chirp him.
1st Place is there for the “Canada Birds” that is for certan . . and who nose maybe another crack at the National Championship, I wonder how this Team comes up with all of the $$$$$$$$$$ to keep bringing these Player’s in. They are the favorite of the “Big Boss Mazzucca” that is the Word that is heard around the League. For certan it does not matter who wins as long as it s not the Soo Eagles of that I am certan.
