Soo Eagles in a 10-game swoon
They reached a high on January 23 when they beat the league-leading Soo Thunderbirds for the first time this season but since then the Soo Eagles have only 2 wins in their last 10 outings.
The Eagles will try to reverse their losing ways of late tonight when they play host to the Thunderbirds in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo. Game time is 7 p.m.
With a record of 42-4-1, the Thunderbirds need only a point from tonight’s game to clinch first place overall in the 12-team NOJHL.
The Eagles, who had improved to 17-20-1 when they beat the Thunderbirds back on January 23, now have a record of 19-27-2 and will finish in fourth place in the NOJHL West Division and eighth overall.
A team that appears to at times lack positive motivation from co-coach Jim Capy — it is he who calls the shots behind the bench — the Eagles do tend however to play up to the level of the Thunderbirds.
But even though they have played the top-seeded Thunderbirds relatively close, the expansion Eagles have won only one of nine games against their cross-border rivals thus far this season.
“Lack positive motivation ” is a nice way of describing Jim Capy’s coaching capabilities. As a Soo Eagles Fan, I had high hopes for the team under his coaching. Utterly disappointed and disgusted at this point.
On a positive note, Good luck to the Soo Eagles tonight!
Randy: my 2 cents worth is that most of the players on the Soo Eagles would prefer another Coach to be “calling the shots” as you say.
Jim Capy is a good coach and if the young boys listen to him they should do fine
I have never been a fan of Capy because of the way he treats People. He was run out of Blind River twice as he did not know how to treat Players or the Fans or the Sponsers neither.
I am suprized that Michigan hired him as their Coach … he sure is not a well liked man in Blind. What do you say RR?
I think Coach Capy is the best Coach in the NOHL. The Eagles are lucky to have this man as our Coach.
Geeeez, what’s going on in Timmins? Rock appear to have lost all interest in the program. One would question the amount of starts the #1 tendy has received without any sustained success. Then go into FR and start the #3 guy????? Lots of fire power in the top 2 lines, but clearly they need to coach a bit of defence.
Randy: I thought Bruno was the coach of the Eagles. Is he still there in some capacity?
Bruno is co-coach and GM but he lets Capy run the practices and run the bench during games.
I’m surprised the Soo Thunderbirds are still kicking around and having one winning season after another playing in an empty Essar Centre. How does that team manage to pay the bills with no fans in the stands?
They get as many fans as Rayside, Espanola, Blind River, French River and the Thunderbirds do very well with corporate sponsorship.
