Soo Thunderbirds are in position to win the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship without leaving home.

The Thunderbirds lead the Cochrane Crunch three games to one and can take the best-of-seven series — and the NOJHL title — with a win tonight.

Tonight’s Game 5 is slated to begin at 7:30 at the Essar Centre.

After losing Game 1 of the series at home by a 6-2 score, the Thunderbirds have since reeled off three victories in succession while holding the high-scoring Crunch to just two goals.

With 8-0, 4-2 and 2-0 wins in Games 2, 3 and 4, the Thunderbirds have set themselves up to win the NOJHL crown on home ice.

Of note, rookie goalie Mario Culina has been between the pipes for all three Soo wins.
