Double overtime solved nothing.

The top two teams in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League fought to a stalemate on Saturday night.

First-place Soo Thunderbirds and second-seeded Kirkland Lake Gold Miners skated to a 3-3 double overtime draw at John Rhodes Community Centre.

Matthew MacKay — a call-up from the Soo Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget Hockey League — and fellow forwards Matt Pinder and Anthony Miller scored for the T-Birds, who improved to 28-4-6, good for 62 points, with the tie.

Jeremy Picard-Fiset, Zach Pease and Luc Soares scored for visiting Kirkland Lake, which is two points back of the Soo in the standings going into a road tilt at Blind River today.

What you think about “T-Birds, Gold Miners all tied up”

  1. well said hurd . Coach smith is getting schooled by lafleur every time the two teams meet. KL was double shifting its top players while smith kept matching them with his so called checking line. Moral of the story, their offensive players were on the ice constantly while the soo was more content with not letting them score instead . The soo could be explosive every game if the coach would just let them play. This play not to lose attitude must change in the soo or same result as last year.
