Soo Thunderbirds are one win away from advancing to the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship series for the fourth successive season.

Anthony Miller finished twice and Brian Kment fashioned his third shutout of the playoffs as the Thunderbirds blanked the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats 5-0 on Monday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven, NOJHL semi-final series.

Game 4 in the set is slated for Wednesday in Elliot Lake.

Rookie forward Matt Caruso — with his 13th of the playoffs, the same number he scored during the regular season — Matt Mitchell and defenceman Brandon Grandinetti also scored for the Thunderbirds, who out-shot the Wildcats by a resounding 44-17 margin.

The Thunderbirds won the 2011-2012 NOJHL championship and lost in the finals in both 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.
