Birds land Gage Evans
Towering defenseman Gage Evans has been acquired by his hometown Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League after spending the 2023-2024 season with the Windsor LaSalle Vipers of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
Evans put up four goals, 11 assists, 15 points and had 59 penalty minutes in 48 regular season games for Windsor LaSalle in ’23-24 and then added a goal, three assists, four points and 16 penalty minutes in nine playoff matches for the Vipers.
Still growing and now standing in at 6 foot 4, 200 pounds, the hulking defender with a 2006 birth date was a 14th round pick by the Windsor Spitfires from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League at the 2022 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft. Evans, who then spent the 2022-2023 season with the Windsor Zone of the Under 18 Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario, remains on the radar of the OHL Spitfires.
