Abitibi Eskimos were 17 seconds away from narrowing the gap in their second-round, best-of-seven, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series with Soo Thunderbirds.

But Thunderbirds defenceman Tyler Jones tied the score with the clock winding down and forward Eric Hillock connected 79 seconds into overtime to give visiting Soo a 2-1 win on Wednesday and a stranglehold, three games to none lead in the series.

Game 4 in the set is slated for tonight in Iroquois Falls.

Making his sixth straight start of the playoffs in place of injured starter Joel Horodziejczyk, Brian Kment kicked aside 34 shots in the Soo net.

What you think about “T-Birds take it in OT”

  1. Heartbreaker for Eskis fans and players! played well enough win, but so did the birds! birds depth is hard for the Eskis to match, but they played a helluva game last night, bounces went the Soo way as the clock ticked down! Nice compliment by the Soo coach to both clubs in the Timmins Daily Press, hopefully the Eskis can find will to dig deep again and put up a good fight, they threw everything at em last night and came oh so close to making a series out of it!

  2. Yes, what a heart breaker but what a game !! Fast pace for 3 periods ,missed chances from both sides, both tenders were great….just your typical north-south hockey with well executed plays , good hitting and well respected by both clubs. Fans got a real treat last night. Hoping for the same tonight but with different results.

  3. Well….the Hockey Gods weren`t in our favour tonight. Now let`s hope we`re not left with ghosts only.
