Soo Thunderbirds scored less than two minutes into the game and never gave up the lead en route to a 4-1 home-ice win over the Timmins Rock on Sunday. The Thunderbirds now lead the best-of-seven Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship series two games to one.

Game 4 is set for 7:00 tonight at John Rhodes Community Centre.

Defenseman Kaden Dundas gave the Soo the early lead and the Thunderbirds went up 3-1 after the first period with Wyatt Marlow and Jackson Truchan also scoring to offset a Timmins tally by Justin Charette.

After a scoreless second stanza, Justin Mauro put the game away for the home side with a third period marker.

Both goalies played well, Landon Miller for the Soo and Patrick Boivin for Timmins. The Rock, while sloppy in its own end at times, did have a number of good scoring chances but the puck was not bouncing its way.
