Soo Thunderbirds continued their mastery of the Soo Eagles on Saturday and rookie forward Mark Tassone continued his scoring run of late.

The Thunderbirds improved their record atop the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to 30-3-0 with a 3-1 win over the visiting Eagles, who dropped to 12-19-1 with the setback.

The Thunderbirds have won all seven games against the cross-river Eagles thus far this season.

Tassone, the youngest player on the Thunderbirds with a 1999 birth date, scored once in the win over the Eagles.

Over his last 7 games, Tassone has 5 goals, 2 assists, 7 points. For the season, the 5-foot-11, 177-pound youngster has 8 goals, 14 assists, 22 points in 32 games.

Another rookie forward, Ryan Mulligan, also scored for the Thunderbirds in the Saturday night win over as the Eagles as did veteran forward Matt Pinder.

Nate Harris replied for the Eagles.

What you think about “Tassone continues point production”

  1. Goalie Mario Culina wins his second career OHL game in as many starts for the Windsor Spitfires today.

  2. If that Eagles-Beavers score is correct I would be hard pressed to not think a total classless move has been carried out by the NOJHL’s US based squad.

  3. Could not agree more. Cochrane pulled that last year on Blind River, leaving Gratton out on PP all game to rack up 9 points, instead of giving 3rd and 4th line PP time, and telling your top guys to ease up and show some class. How do you take stats seriously after that? Sportsmanship should count for something.

Good for Culina. He’s an outstanding goalie. Soo will miss him.

  4. I have seen this trend of players trying to rack up points, selfishness and so forth. The whole point thing is ridiculous anyways. Referees are consistently giving assists to wrong players and the ones that should be awarded are not. Then you got the teams/players that just beat up on the weaker teams….how many times has RBC played French River???? Espofan2 I couldn’t agree with you more….stats are really fudged and hard to take seriously.

  5. Dumb move by Gm Henderson for giving up a top goalie in Warren when he knew he could lose Culina at anytime to his OHL team. From having the best tandem in the NOJHL to depending on Gordon to carry the load. ..pretty dumb.

  6. Why would Coaching Staff of Blind River bring their team back from Christmas break one day before they played Soo Eagles,Most Junior teams were back on Mon 28 of Dec. Just real embarrasing for team, town, and league.

  7. Espofan2, I Would expect nothing less from Leonard as that’s the epitome of classless in my books.

Tweety, you’re missing the point. You don’t do things like that period. Unless you can run back to the USA of course……..
