Turkey and then a tournament
First, the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League will celebrate Thanksgiving on Monday, Oct. 10. Then, the 12-team loop will play host to a showcase tournament at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.
All 12 NOJHL teams will face off in the two-day event, which will be staged on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Wednesday, Oct. 12.
All 12 teams will play two games apiece and all matches will count towards the NOJHL’s regular-season standings.
According to the NOJHL, there are more than 30 scouts who have confirmed their attendance including representatives from National Hockey League Central Scouting and NHL teams plus scouts and recruiters from Ontario Hockey League, National Collegiate Athletic Association and Canadian Interuniversity Sport programs.
Following is the showcase tournament schedule.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
Rayside-Balfour vs. Espanola 8:30 a.m.
French River vs. Kirkland Lake 11 a.m.
Soo Eagles vs. Blind River 1:30 p.m.
Powassan vs. Iroquois Falls 4 p.m.
Soo Thunderbirds vs. Elliot Lake 6:30 p.m.
Timmins vs. Cochrane 9 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 12
Kirkland Lake vs. Powassan 8:30 a.m.
Iroquois Falls vs. Timmins 11 a.m.
Espanola vs. Soo Thunderbirds 1:30 p.m.
Elliot Lake vs. Soo Eagles 4 p.m.
Cochrane vs. French River 6:30 p.m.
Blind River vs. Rayside-Balfour 9 p.m.

Will be following this from London, Ont. Pumped to see the NOJHL stepping up and gathering the teams for a tournament. I do have to ask though, I’ve seen improvements from BR and ESP, but what is going on in FR? 0-11-0-1? Surely something must be done.
