Three goalies in Eagles net
Soo Eagles are set in net ahead of the looming ’26-27 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season. President and general manager Bruno Bragagnolo has confirmed to Hockey News North that the Eagles have three goalies signed, including a pair of local area lads.
As Hockey News North first reported on Monday of this week, the Eagles signed rookie Daryn Szabo. And we have since confirmed that two others who both saw action in the Eagles net in ’25-26 — Dalton Hoornstra and Jett Loechler — are also signed up to play for the Michigan Soo crew for ’26-27. Notably, all have different birth years.
Daryn Szabo. Szabo is staying home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to play junior hockey. A 5 foot 10, 170 pound puck stopper with a 2009 birth date, Szabo spent the ’25-26 season with the under 18 level Soo Indians of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association’s Tier 1 Elite League. Prior to that, Szabo left home to tend goal for first the Boston Jr. Eagles and then Detroit Little Caesars.
Dalton Hoornstra. Hailing from the nearby town of Brimley, Michigan, the 5 foot 11, 175 pound Hoornstra had a backup role with the Eagles in ’25-26 as a 2008 birth year rookie. Hoornstra had a regular season record of 7-6-0 with a 3.07 goals against average and .907 save percentage.
Jett Loechler. At 6 foot 1, 195 pounds and with a 2007 birth date, Loechler joined the Eagles from the lower level U.S. Premier Hockey League late in the ’25-26 season and posted a record of 2-1-0 with a 1.96 goals against average and .922 save percentage. He hails from the Minneapolis, Minnesota suburb of Prior Lake.
