Thunderbirds and Beavers

A mid week home and home set between the Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers is on tap in the hotly-contested West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The big market and small market foes will face off on Tuesday in Blind River and Wednesday in the Soo. Riding a nine game winning streak, the Thunderbirds are in second place with 49 points from a record of 23-9-3. Right behind are the Beavers with 48 points from a 22-8-4 record and a game in hand on the T-Birds.

Top producers for the Soo this season include local product Justin Mauro, who has seven goals, 13 assists, 20 points in just 11 games since joining the T-Birds from the Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Between the pipes, Kolton Bourret has a 12-6-1 record with a 2.71 goals against average and .903 save percentage for coach Cole Jarrett’s Soo crew.

Over to Blind River, Caleb Minns leads the Beavers in scoring with 14 goals, 28 assists, 42 points followed by Evan Fraccaro with 14-21-35 totals. And the Beavers have net worth in goalies Charlie Burns and Gavin Disano. Burns has a record of 11-3-3 with a 2.00 goals against average and .922 save percentage. And Disano is no slouch with an 11-5-1 record, 2.46 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
