Thunderbirds thump Wildcats
Game 1 was for the Birds. But Game 2 will be in the Wildcats den.
Soo Thunderbirds shrugged off a two-goal deficit and rallied with four third-period tallies to cuff the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats 5-2 in the opening game of their best-of-seven, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League semi-final playoff series on Thursday.
Game 2 is slated for Saturday night in Elliot Lake.
In Thursday’s opener, Elliot Lake took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Aaron Carmichael and Kyle Salmon but the Wildcats would not score again on Thunderbird goalie Brian Kment.
Matt Pinder led the Soo with a pair of goals and Boris Katchouk, Owen Headrick and Anthony Miller all found range once.
