Vikings steal another one
Elliot Lake Vikings are a distant last in the West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. But the upstart Vikings scored their second straight upset win tonight with a 4-3 road victory over the Soo Thunderbirds.
The surprising win over the Thunderbirds followed a 3-2 stunner by the Vikings over the Sudbury Cubs just four days ago.
Once again, goalie Matthew Vahramian was the hero for Elliot Lake in the win over the Soo. Vahramian made 32 saves for the Vikings, who were outshot by a 34-19 margin.
In the previous win over Sudbury, Vahramian made 54 saves for Elliot Lake, which was outshot 56-28.
Elliot Lake remains in last place in the West Division with 11 points from a record of 4-8-3. The Thunderbirds and Soo Eagles are tied for first in the West with 25 points apiece followed by Sudbury with 24, Espanola Paper Kings and Blind River Beavers with 22 points each and then Elliot Lake, with its 11.
