Forrest of the Voodoos

Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have signed an erstwhile Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the North Bay Battalion.

1997 birth-year goalie Garrett Forrest has committed to Powassan for the 2015-2016 campaign, Voodoos general manager Chris Dawson has confirmed.

Forrest, who was a 10th-round pick by North Bay at the 2013 OHL draft, spent the 2014-2015 season playing at the major midget level with both Detroit Honeybaked and Detroit Little Caesars.

An Ashburn, Virginia product, Forrest played five games as a 15-year old in 2013-2014 with the Brookings Blizzard of the North American Hockey League.

Forrest was one of 38 players who attended a Voodoos tryout camp last weekend and he was rather impressive, according to Dawson.

“He’s an athletic and competitive netminder and he certainly showed that at our camp,” said Dawson.

The signing of Forrest follows the recent transfer of well-traveled 1995 birth-year goalie Joel Horodziejczyk from Powassan to the St. Catharines Falcons of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The GOJHL will be the fourth junior league that Horodziejczyk has been a part of in a three-season span.

Since playing in the NOJHL for the Soo Thunderbirds in 2013-2014, Horodziejczyk has also suited up for the Pembroke Lumberkings of the Central Canada Hockey League and the Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the Maritime Hockey League.
