Working OT in Iroquois Falls
This is the early season feel good story in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. The new Iroquois Falls Storm has a perfect 3-0 record through three home ice victories that all came in overtime.
Playing before crowds of 965, 621 and 621 again at venerable Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls, the Storm has skated to 3-2, 4-3 and 4-3 OT wins in respective triumphs over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, Soo Thunderbirds and Elliot Lake Vikings.
Goalie Connor Dunham-Fox has been in the net for two of the Storm wins and has a 2.48 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. The 6-foot-4, 205 pound Dunham-Fox has a 2005 birth date.
Meanwhile, 2007 birth year defenseman Owen Cassidy leads the Storm with three goals, two assists, five points. And forwards Charlie Crump and Alex Chewanish have each scored two goals.
All of the above mentioned players are newcomers to the NOJHL.
With its three OT wins on home ice to start the 2023-2024 season, it will be more of a grind for the Storm this weekend as it heads on the road for three games in three days, facing the Soo Eagles, Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers.
Iroquois Falls is the transplanted Cochrane Crunch, which won only seven of 58 games in 2022-2023 as a team that was plagued by poor fan support.
Good on the storm and their fans not a better arena to watch a game keep it going.
