67’s add to kid corps blueline
Already featuring the youngest set of defensemen in the entire Ontario Hockey League, the Ottawa 67’s have added 1999 birth-year defender Kyle Auger from the Barrie Colts.
In exchange Auger, who hails from the northwestern Ontario town of Thunder Bay, Ottawa gives up a third-round pick at the 2017 OHL draft.
“We’re excited to have another good young player join our ranks and one that I’m confident fans are going to see represent the 67’s for years to come,” Ottawa coach-general manager Jeff Brown said of the 5-foot-10, 172-pound Auger.
“With (overage defenseman) Jacob Middleton remaining in San Jose (at the National Hockey League training camp of the Sharks) there was a need to bolster our depth on the back end and Kyle will help us out there,” added Brown, a former standout defenseman himself of more than 800 NHL games.
The addition of Auger gives Ottawa no less than six young defensemen who were born in either 1999 or 2000.
Nice to see Kyle get such a great opportunity to play big minutes and in all situations.
