A first for Charlie Schenkel

Overage goalie Charlie Schenkel returned to fine form on Friday in picking up his first win as a member of the Kingston Frontenacs.

Schenkel stopped 15 of 16 shots as the Frontenacs overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the visiting Soo Greyhounds by a 3-1 margin. It was Schenkel’s first home game as a member of the Frontenacs and came after he struggled in his first two starts for Kingston, both of which were on the road.

One of the top goalies in the Ontario Hockey League this season, Schenkel was dealt by the Greyhounds to Kingston at this month’s trade deadline for fellow overage puck stopper Nolan Lalonde and three draft picks.

Lalonde, by the way, had his first win as a Greyhound earlier this week, making 36 saves in a 7-0 win over the Peterborough Petes.
