Ashton Calder a hidden gem?
North American Central Scouting chief Mark Seidel calls Soo Indians winger Ashton Calder a “hidden gem” going into Saturday’s Ontario Hockey League draft.
In its rankings of the top 1998 birth-year players for Saturday’s draft, NACS refers to Calder as a “hidden gem. Good size, new addition to the Indians who puts up the points. Plays smart, moves the puck well.”
NACS has Calder rated 102nd overall, which translates to an early sixth-round pick.
Calder, a 6-foot-2, 190 pounder, had 10 goals, 8 assists, 18 points in just 20 games for the Indians major midgets during the 2013-2014 season.
Saturday’s OHL draft begins at 9 a.m. and will be conducted via the Internet at ontariohockeyleague.com.
