Take a hike, Ryder Cali
Soo Greyhounds have dealt no show forward Ryder Cali to the North Bay Battalion for a collection of future Ontario Hockey League priority selection draft picks.
Cali was the Greyhounds first round pick at the 2024 OHL draft. But after attending the Greyhounds spring orientation camp in Sault Ste. Marie, the 2008 birth year youngster refused to sign a standard player agreement with the Red and White. Cali has a verbal, future Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association commitment to Harvard University that is not binding.
Besides getting a compensatory first round pick at the 2025 OHL priority selections draft, the Greyhounds will be in line for four future draft picks from North Bay should Cali sign with the Battalion. The picks are second and fourth round selections in 2028, a sixth rounder in 2025 and a seventh rounder in 2027.
They say verbal commitments are not worth the paper they’re written on.
