It may only be a seven-game sample but the Flint Firebirds are showing a sharp side thus far this Ontario Hockey League season.

The Firebirds latest win, a 7-1 thrashing of the Guelph Storm, boosted Flint’s record to a tidy 4-2-1.

Impressive about the seven-game stint to date is that the Firebirds have played five road matches and just two at home. Flint has a 2-2-1 road record and has won both of its home outings.

Three overage players have been at the top of their game for coach Ryan Oulahen’s Firebirds.

Forwards Maurizio Colella, with 3-6-9 totals and Ryan Moore, with 1-8-9 numbers, top the Flint scoring chart while goalie Garrett Forrest has a 4-1-1 record to go with a 2.88 goals against average and .917 save percentage.

Other top producers for the Firebirds are second-year forward Ty Dellandrea, who has 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points, and four other front-line skaters who have equally combined for 12 goals — Nick Caamano, Hunter Holmes, Max Kislinger and rookie Ethan Keppen.
