Firebirds 1st-rounder in like Flint
Forward Ty Dellandrea, who was a first-round pick, fifth overall at the 2016 Ontario Hockey League draft, has committed to the Flint Firebirds for the ’16-17 campaign, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.
“From an organizational prospective, we are thrilled to welcome Ty and his family to our program,” said recently-hired Firebirds general manager George Burnett. “There’s a mutual excitement to get everything started and Ty is going to be a huge part of our foundation moving forward.”
A natural goal-scorer, Dellandrea tallied 35 times in 35 games with the Central Ontario Wolves minor midgets in 2015-2016.
“Playing in the Ontario Hockey League is what you dream of growing up,” said Dellandrea, who ironically, hails from Port Perry, the same Ontario town that Burnett is from.
“To make it official means a lot to my family and I,” continued the Firebird first-rounder. “It’s a great community in Flint with a strong fan base and I’m looking forward to making the best impact as a player on the ice for years to come.”
