Kole Sherwood has become the first member of the second-year Flint Firebirds to be named Canadian Hockey League player-of-the-week.

The 1997 birth-year forward lit up Ontario Hockey League goalies for 7 goals, 4 assists, 11 points in 3 road games last week. Included in the barrage was a 5-goal, 2-assist, 7-point outing in an 11-2 Firebirds drubbing of the Saginaw Spirit.

Acquired by Flint general manager George Burnett in a trade with the London Knights early in the 2016-2017 season, Sherwood is under National Hockey League contract to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With 22 goals, 28 assists, 50 points, Sherwood has been a major acquisition for the Firebirds, who have a record of 20-18-4 thus far in 2016-2017 after missing the playoffs in 2015-2016.
