A first for Owen Headrick

As far as a debut goes it was good on a team and personal level for Garden River First Nation product Owen Headrick.

The slender defender made his Ontario Hockey League debut with the Erie Otters on Friday night and it was a case of win-win.

Not only did the Otters cuff the visiting Sarnia Sting by an 8-2 margin, Headrick scored his first OHL goal in his first OHL game after leaving the Lake Superior State Lakers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for Erie earlier in the week.

The victory allowed Erie to keep pace with the first-place Soo Greyhounds, second-seeded London Knights and in a tie with the Windsor Spitfires for third spot in the hotly-contested Western Conference.

Going into play today, the Greyhounds lead the pack with 67 points followed by the Knights with 65 and the Otters and Spitfires with 63 apiece.

What you think about “A first for Owen Headrick”

  1. congrats to the headrick family on achieving this milestone. Owen is great kid with loads of potential. It is not often that a top ohl team goes after a late round pick as aggressively as the otters have. Lake State is in rebuilding mode and it was unlikely that owen would have been an nhl draft pick this year with the lakers. Lets hope the nhl scouts see what the otters have known for quite some time. Lets cheer on another soo boy trying to make the show. All the best owen we will be watching and cheering for you .
