They have clinched the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League. And with five games to play in the regular season, the Flint Firebirds could still finish as high as fifth place.

Either way, the Firebirds have made it to the post season. A recent 4-3 shootout victory over the visiting Soo Greyhounds officially lifted Flint into a playoff spot and moved the Firebirds to within a game of the .500 mark with 62 points from a record of 29-30-4.

Of note, it was a shootout goal by former Greyhound Connor Clattenburg that helped Flint punch its ticket into the playoffs. A 2005 birth year forward, Clattenburg has eight goals, eight assists, 16 points in 25 games for Flint since being obtained from the Soo at the January 10 trade deadline. The big winger had four goals, eight assists, 12 points in 30 games for the Greyhounds prior to the trade.
