A year after being drafted by the Flint Firebirds, right winger Jake Wismer has officially committed to the Ontario Hockey League team, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Flint had selected Wismer in the second round, 41st overall, at the 2016 OHL draft.

“Receiving a commitment from Jack and his family this year after being a high draft pick from a year ago is a real positive for our program,” said Firebirds general manager Barclay Branch.

Branch made mention of the smarts that Wismer possesses.

“Jack has a high-degree of hockey sense,” Branch began. “He’s shown at every level that he makes good things happen with the puck, he’s smart and he makes the players around him better. He’s got a lot of positive elements to bring to our program and that excites us.”

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound, 2000 birth date skater is fresh from a point-per-game season with the Ancaster Avalanche of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Now, Wismer is happy to finally be off to Flint.

“Flint is a great place, the atmosphere around the hockey is amazing, the fans are crazy and it’s nice to finally be going there to play,” Wismer relayed.
