Flint Firebirds on the radio
Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League have reached an agreement with Cumulus Media to have all 68 of their regular-season games plus any playoff matches broadcast live on sports radio station 1330 WTRX.
WTRX will be the official flagship station for the Firebirds inaugural season in the OHL.
The Firebirds are the relocated Plymouth Whalers franchise and are under new ownership with the move to Flint effective the upcoming OHL season.
Firebirds president Costa Papista, himself a former OHLer from his playing days with the Sudbury Wolves and London Knights, said the agreement with Cumulus is a “perfect fit.
“We are very pleased to partner with Cumulus for our live game broadcasts and an hour-long coach’s show. A great radio partner allows us to educate our fans on the Ontario Hockey League and this great community sports and entertainment project. We want to make it easy for fans to follow the Firebirds and WTRX will be the perfect fit.”
Firebirds director of broadcasting and communications Dominic Hennig will call all the live play-by-play action on 1330 WTRX beginning on Thursday, Sept. 24 with the season opener on the road against the Saginaw Spirit.
