With six games to play in the regular season, Flint has a 10 point lead on the ninth place Sarnia Sting for the eighth slot. Further to that, the Firebirds are only four points back of the fifth place Owen Sound Attack, three points behind the sixth seed Erie Otters and a mere two points in arrears of the seventh slotted Guelph Storm.

Flint, which takes a record of 28-30-4 into play this week, has leaned a lot on workhorse goalie Nathan Day this season. Day, who has a 2005 birth date and who was a sixth round pick of the Edmonton Oilers at the 2023 National Hockey League draft, is closing in on 3,000 minutes played for Flint this season.

Day has a record of 24-24-2 for the Firebirds.
