Flint, Windsor home & home
As they seek to try to preserve the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League the Flint Firebirds will face off against the Windsor Spitfires twice this week.
The two teams will meet on Thursday in Windsor and on Friday in Flint.
The Firebirds and Spitfires are part of a four team race for the no. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Erie Otters currently hold down seventh place with 55 points followed by Flint with 52, the Sarnia Sting with 50 and Windsor still in the hunt with 43.
Thus far this season, the Spitfires have won two of three games against the Firebirds. Flint’s only win over Windsor was in overtime, meaning the Spitfires have earned five of a possible six points from the Firebirds.
Flint heads into action this week with a record of 24-28-4 while Windsor has an 18-31-7 mark. The Spitfires might actually be in eighth place if not for having a record of 4-16-1 through their first 21 games, a bad start that resulted in the firing of head coach Jerrod Smith. Windsor has since played close to the .500 level with a record of 14-15-6 under interim head coach Casey Torres.
