Flugins to the Firebirds
Canadian Hockey League import draft pick Karlis Flugins has been signed by the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League ahead of the looming ’24-25 season.
Hailing from Riga, Latvia, the 2007 birth year forward was selected by Flint in the second round of the 2024 CHL import draft. Flugins represented Latvia at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships in Finland.
Firebirds’ head scout Mike Oliverio said Flugins is a fine fit for a Flint team that is expected to be a top five contender among the 10 members of the OHL’s Western Conference in ’24-25.
“Flugins plays a North American style game. He has an aggressive style in how he moves pucks, is strong on the puck, good in all zones and was able to create offensively with his Latvian team. He fits the Flint Firebirds mold. And since he is an ’07, he will have the chance to grow and develop with our core group,” said Oliverio.
