First games to be played are about six weeks away for the new Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Michigan-based Firebirds — who are the relocated Plymouth Whalers — will take to the ice for the first time on September 3 with an intra-squad scrimmage at the Polar Palace Arena in nearby Lapeer.

Tickets are $10 for general admission seating and proceeds will be split with the Lapeer County Youth Hockey Association.

The Firebirds will then begin their OHL exhibition slate on September 4 when they visit their in-state rivals, the Saginaw Spirit.

The Firebirds regular-season home opener will be on September 26 at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint.
