Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League have followed up the recent signing of 2016 first-round draft pick Ty Dellandrea by inking second-rounder Hunter Holmes.

Like Dellandrea, who scored 35 goals in 35 games with the Central Ontario Wolves minor midgets in 2015-2016, fellow forward Holmes has a nose for the net.

A 2000 birth-year youngster with good size, Holmes had 22 goals in 34 games for the Niagara North Stars minor midgets in ’15-16 before tallying six times in four OHL Cup outings.

Firebirds general manager George Burnett, the OHL veteran who is also new to Flint, gave his expert views on what Holmes holds as a hockey player.

“Hunter brings an effective two-way game. He is a strong skater, with an excellent skill set. He is a key addition to our foundation and I expect him to have an immediate impact in the fall,” said Burnett, who has an association with the OHL as a GM and coach that dates back to 1989.
