The Greyhounds have another goalie under team control. Reid Thomas, who was picked by the Soo in the 15th and final round of the 2023 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft, has been signed to a scholarship and development package.

Thomas, who has a 2007 birth date, joins holdovers Charlie Schenkel (2004) and Landon Miller (2006) in the Greyhounds signed goalie group.

Hounds general manager Kyle Raftis commented on the signing of Thomas.

“Over the past year, Reid has made significant strides in his development, both on the ice and in his personal growth. With his recent commitment, we are eager to work closely with Reid and our coaching staff. Our goal is to deepen our goaltending talent … we are enthusiastic about the continued evolution of Reid’s skills,” Rafts relayed of the goalie who tended twine for the U18 AAA Ajax-Pickering Raiders in ’23-24 and posted a 1.47 goals against average.

Thomas, despite hailing from Oshawa, has an attachment to the Greyhounds from when he was much younger.

“Signing with the Greyhounds is truly and utterly an honour. I have been dreaming of this since I was a kid. I have memories of playing the NHL Be A Pro video game and always picking to play on the Greyhounds just because I really liked the look of the jerseys. So it’s pretty surreal to actually be putting on the red white jersey,” he relayed.

Thomas also reflected on going from being a 15th round draft pick to actually signing with the Greyhounds.

“One thing that I would say to every kid trying to make the OHL or even just trying to make a AAA team is never let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Take every opportunity that is given to you but also don’t just wait for opportunities. Create opportunities for yourself as well,” noted the up and coming young goalie.
